The Samsung Galaxy S3 was released in May of last year and was met with much fanfare. In fact, by September 2012, 20 million units were sold. This was until Google unveiled its Nexus 4; which was fully loaded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (the latest operating system at the time) for a fraction of the cost of the S3. That’s quite an attractive savings for consumers. Up to this point, the Galaxy S4 has followed similar patterns to the Galaxy S3 release. Gadget brand, Protect Your Bubble, looks into whether the S4 device’s price will be comparable to the S3 or whether it will be more affordable.
The unsubsidized cost for the S3 was $800 in May 2012. So far, rumors on the web state that the Galaxy S4 price will fall around $799 – $850. Many to believe that the Galaxy S4 will follow the same pricing trends as the S3, but it may be wise for Samsung to opt for a more competitive price point to give the new smartphone an edge in the marketplace. Especially with the rumored Apple iPhone 6 release on the horizon.
Currently, U.S. consumers can purchase the S3 through major carriers for about $199. Although no pricing has been confirmed for the Galaxy S4, some tech blogs speculate that the carrier’s subsidized rate will be a similar $199.99. Other rumors on the web guess that the pricing will be closer to $260 with a two-year contract.
Regardless of all the rumors, it’s safe to assume that this new smartphone will be popular, pricey and a target for thieves. Protect Your Bubble provides smartphone insurance which covers loss, theft and water damage and consumers will receive a replacement device in 24 hours.
