We *nearly* had a travel disaster on our way back from a cruise. We were at the gate waiting or our connecting flight home. We were tired from a long day of travel and we were looking forward to getting home. As the boarding time for our flight came and went, we were confused as to why we hadn’t been called. It turned out that while we were at the right gate, we were in the wrong concourse!

We hurried to make our way to the proper concourse, where we found that our flight had been delayed. Even though we got there fifteen minutes after its scheduled departure, we managed to make the flight ten minutes before it actually left!

I was about 11 years old and I was on a roadtrip through Yellowstone National Park with my family. I was so excited to go see Old Faithful and stay at the Old Faithful Inn but I suddenly developed a fever about 2 hours before checking into the hotel. By the time we arrived I was very sick and I had to stay in bed while my family went out to buy me medicine. We had to hang around the hotel the next two days without any sightseeing but after I recovered we continued with our roadtrip without any more problems.

Steve – thanks for the share! Hope you eventually got to see Old Faithful. Thanks, Jenny

    California Love:
My family and I went on a trip to California a couple years back to visit their cousins. It was their first trip there so we were all really excited. We had the best week eating the yummiest of foods, riding all the rides at Disney land and just having a great time sightseeing. When it was time to go, my daughters, son and their cousins were having the worst time accepting it. They wanted to stay with their cousins and be on vacation forever. On the day of our flight back, their cousin and my son decided to hide all of our things (luggage, rental keys etc.). We ended up missing that day’s flight back home. The next morning, the boys had gotten up and changed the times on the alarm clocks and our phones so that we had all overslept! We finally made it back home a couple of days later but I just can’t believe what lengths they went through to stay there. We ended up making a promise that we would visit them every year and we haven’t had any problems going back home since then.

Wow – glad that story had a happy ending! Can’t believe the boys went to such lengths. :)

    “Our Big Flood”
We traveled by car to Nashville, TN to see my all time favorite in concert “Jimmy Buffet”. The rain started just after the concert had begun and it never stopped. By the next morning we were told that roads were closing in and out of Nashville. My husband never the less was determined to leave Nashville and return to our home in Georgia so the he would not miss work on Monday, had us packed and in the car in record time. Leaving Nashville however took till noon, finding a passable interstate road impossible! My husband in all his positive I can over come this decided to take a country road south and away from the storm…or so he thought. I have never been so scared in my life water was ever where …after running into more roads closed or water we ended up on a mountain road to no where in what appeared to be the now the very worst of the storm. I’m telling him put me out at the next town no one in their right mind is out in weather like this ..when he goes …Look honey it’s a turkey ! sure enough it was a turkey ..I looked at him and said and my point is that look even that turkey is headed up the mountain ! He gave in and finally at the next town we left the Indigo hotel in down town Nashville and ended up in a broken down motel in their “best” room .. Stuck now in town with one red light, due to what had become known as the worst flood ever in Nashville. My 1st ever trip to Nashville to see Jimmy Buffet in concert for the 1st time had become officially the concert and trip from hell! In retrospect my husband and I smile about the experience……but God knows I don’t want to ever go through something like that again! Not even to see Jimmy Buffet !

Jimmy Buffet is great! Definitely worth the flood adventure. Thanks for sharing.

    Suitcase Snafu

It had been a long time since I had traveled by plane. I had a great trip planned to Los Angeles for myself and my four sons. The day before we left, something nagged in my mind that I should check what size and types of baggage was allowed to be checked in for the trip. I had planned for each of us to have our own suitcase, and would have been completely devastated if I had shown up at the airport like that. It would have cost my $400. That would have completely blown my budget. I could not believe it! After I regrouped a bit, I thought, I could probably reorganize everything and check just one, maybe two suitcases and save a bunch of money. I explained all this to my sons and one of them in particular encouraged me to figure out a way only take the things we could fit in our carry- on bags. It ended up being a fun challenge of organization and careful planning. We saved $400 and learned some valuable life lessons about double checking on things I think I already know and living simply.
